Dear God, I put Scape in the wash tonight

Please let him be ok, Lord.

I started fursuit dancing on monday night, and then tuesday night i did it again, felt like it on wednesday too and then thursday all day i could not wait to get home from work and of course friday well... Scape actually finally started to get funky after five nights in a row (was too busy tonight to make it a record six lol. He has been thoroughly dried every night in between but since his completion, first public outing on Halloween plus a ton of other gigs in between now and then; he finally needed a bath. I am making a cup of tea to stay up late and make sure he gets on the drying gadget and snuggled comfy up with three fans for the night.
*sigh*

Washing fursuits actually isn't all that scary. I throw Sophie's body in the wash after ever con. :)

Hell, you can even use the dryer if it has a no heat or tumble dry setting.

Heehee. Well, so is Sophie and she's still in tip-top shape after many no heat dryer visits. I don't really have a clue what started the paranoia about washing fursuits! I've heard the silliest rumors about how you have to brush the fur after it's washed or it'll curl and really weird stuff. :P I think people forget faux fur is still fabric, even if it's in the shape of a cute animal!

Congrats on the washing and welcome to the 'Fursuits Ain't Smelling of BO' club or FASOB for short. ;P

There was actually a local fur somewhere who had his come apart in the washer. Like, tore a huge freaking hole in it or something. We had to start a donation fund to help him pay for a new one before a con.

Edit: I think he managed to get a new one all right. I don't know anything about maintenance of fursuits, but I think this may have been like a freak accident. It's probably a good idea to examine the washer you're using beforehand, to look for any potential problems.

If seams are poorly done or very old, I suppose that could happen, same as a shirt or pants.

Good luck with the wash.... I can tell by experience that one can always be paranoid when washing a suit (I'm too chicken for a washer so I always use a tub for mine). Also make sure not to hang dry it or else it'll stretch

whew he turned out alright! we have a brand new washer that works magic so i took a deep breath and trusted the gentle cycle ;) i haven't put him on yet but i've got a crazy hanger i crafted for him so i'm hoping no stretch too

yeah, the first time you put it under water, it seems like you're going to destroy it or something.. heh But it gets easier each time you do it. Yeah, just make sure it isn't hanging up, use something like woolite on it, and MAKE SURE to wash it after every major usage/dance/sweaty chain of events. ^_^

Just don't put fursuits in dryers. Its okay if they "air dry" in a dryer, but I just like to avoid mistakes all together :3

I usually put mine in the washer on delicate and then just hang it up, when its about 80% or so dry, I'll start combing it out with a slicker brush.

Heh, I was super nervous the first time I washed a fursuit too. I prefer the soak in Woolite process, rinse, then hang dry with fans. I'm sure everything will be fine. We gotta hang one of these days, now that we live much closer to each other. :)

I'd just let him drip-dry. As it does, give him a nice brushing and this will help keep the fur from looking matted or crinkled.
